    The Nazca Lines are located
in a basin in Peru.  It is a mystery why they were written. The Nazca Lines are huge geometrical patterns which were drawn with lines.  These lines are made from sand and rocks.








Who were the Nazca?

     Nazca is a race that lived in Peru. Researcher in Cambridge University said that the Nazca died out 1,500 years ago.


When were they made?
  
   They were made in 525 years (about)
When were they discovered?
      In 1939, 22nd June, Paul Kosok who was an archeologist discovered the Nazca Lines .


How were they drawn?
  There are many opinions about the Nazca Lines. If we enlarge original pictures, we can make a huge picture on the ground such the Nazca Lines.

To pray for rain
    
Johnny Isla who is an archeologist in Peru thought that the Nazca Lines was drawn with just lines, and these lines were used as a path for people who prayed for rain.

For a social work
    
Nazca lines agree with the direction of the summer solstice and the winter solstice. The Nazca used the figures to predict the season.  The lines line up with the summer solstice. After the summer solstice the summer rains begin. Without summer rains the Nazca could not grow food
.
